The successful companies realize that eCommerce is crucial to business survival. They use online tools in addition to what they have to expand and grow their base, sometimes using it to replace traditional marketing tools altogether. And this begs the question: how do you market an online business?

There are a few tips of the trade that will you help you be successful in marketing your eCommerce business:

1) Website

The first and absolutely necessary tool of online marketing is having a website that is easy to navigate. A good website will have buttons that are relevant and easy to find. Each button will contain the information in a clear, concise manner.

The overall look of the site will be clean and eye-catching, displaying the company’s logo and contact information. Some websites get fancy with adding videos and such. If done right, they can add additional depth to your website, but make sure they don’t just add clutter the site.

Once you have a working website, have employees and friends/family members try it out. Take their feedback into consideration, and always work on improving and keeping your site up-to-date.

2) Social Media

Social media is a must when trying to maintain and expand your client base. Have a page on Twitter, Google Plus and Facebook, and make regular posts, informing customers of news and the latest trends regarding your online business. Just don’t over-post things or you could turn some people off.

Sidenote: Google is a powerful force in the world of online marketing. Research the SEO concept to make sure you’re doing all you can to get higher rankings and be among the first seen when someone types in specific keywords.

3) Contests

Conduct a social media contest. Try to get people to share and like what you post. This will encourage them to share content with their friends and possibly result in more sales to more people.

4) Blog

Having a small blog that posts reviews, content information, and information related to your online business has been known to drive up business and get others interested in the product.  Try to post new blogs a few times a week, and be sure to market them on social media sites.

When blogging, make sure the blog helps your main website. Sometimes blogging can takeover as the prime site and, instead of directing people to the site and converting readers into dollars, it becomes the prime reading source, which is counter-productive.

Last but not least, make sure to get your customers involved in what you’re doing. Encourage feedback and comments. Also encourage them to share content with their friends and family.

However you choose to market, be sure to try a wide range of mediums. The more you put yourself out there, the more success you will have in your online business. And in the end, the more profitable you will be as a result!
